Donald Trump Pledges Tough Response Following Brutal Killing of Indian-origin Hotel Owner
President Donald Trump has denounced the violent beheading of an Indian-origin hotel manager in Texas recently.
"Enough of being soft on these illegal aliens is FINISHED under my watch," the President declared in a update on his Truth Social platform.
Details of the Tragic Attack
Chandra Mouli Nagamallaiah, 50, was allegedly attacked with a knife by his co-worker Yordanis Cobos-Martinez in front of his family after a dispute over a malfunctioning appliance.
The suspect, who is now in jail, has been charged with homicide.
Trump’s Reaction
Trump promised that the accused "will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law" and is to be "indicted for murder in the most severe charge."
He also criticized the Biden administration, saying that Mr Cobos-Martinez had been previously arrested for several crimes, including alleged child abuse, but was "released back into society because his home country declined to take him back."
Legal Status of the Suspect
According to official sources, Mr Cobos-Martinez is an illegal alien with a final order of removal from the US.
He was allegedly in custody at a facility in Dallas but was released on an order of supervision in early this year after authorities "would not accept him due to his criminal history."
Victim’s Life
The victim, who originated from the Indian state of South India, worked at the a local motel in Dallas.
He studied at school and college in Bangalore, southern India, before relocating to the US in 2018. His child just finished high school and is planning to begin university.
Timeline of the Attack
The assault occurred on 10 September. Police responded to a "stabbing call" and determined through investigation that the suspect had cut the victim multiple times with an edged weapon.
ICE has lodged a hold on Mr Cobos-Martinez at the Dallas County Jail, where he is currently in detention.
Aftermath
Nagamallaiah’s funeral were held on 13 September in Texas, attended by loved ones.
A fundraiser initiated to aid his family has raised more than $321,000 to date.
