Let's Name the Greatest Title of the Console Generation: Semi-Finals
The past two days have been incredibly eventful. On Monday, we marked the five-year anniversary of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X with a competition to determine the top exclusive title of this console generation. We presented eight PS5 games and eight Xbox Series X games to compete against each other, all heading towards a championship round where the leading contender from each console would battle it out. We've witnessed some incredibly close calls in the first two rounds, particularly yesterday’s razor-thin votes. At this point, it's moment to decide the leading PlayStation and Xbox titles ahead of the championship on Thursday.
The PS5 Side
For PlayStation 5, we have the giant-slayer, Astro Bot. Perhaps it's expected given that it won top honors at the previous year's gaming accolades, but its victory over God of War Ragnarök feels like a true upset. However, to reach the championship, it'll have to go through the most valuable player of the PS5 generation: Insomniac Games. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 had a smooth path to the semi-finals, defeating Ghost of Yōtei and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart (another Insomniac game!) to land in the semi-finals. Can Spidey topple a beloved PlayStation icon, or is he fated to become a miniature appearance in the upcoming Astro Bot title?
The Xbox Series X Side
For Xbox Series X has been more exciting. Emerging victorious from a diverse lineup of contenders is Forza Horizon 5. It's a big victory for the racing adventure title already, demonstrating that a niche category title earns to be on the same pedestal as classic platformers and cinematic action-adventure games. Its final obstacle on the way to the finals is a major challenge, though. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle has proven to be a fan favorite, defeating critical darlings like Pentiment and Hi-Fi Rush. Will it overcome a larger-scale title from an established IP that's closely tied to the Xbox brand? If anyone can pull that off, it's likely Indiana Jones.
