The accused confessed to 17 criminal counts at the judicial center on Friday

A person who laced candy with sleeping medication and gave them to minors at a youth camp in the area has pleaded guilty to sexual offences against two children who were nine and 10.

The defendant was arrested after eight youngsters and an older person fell ill at Stathern Lodge in July.

The senior citizen, from the Nottinghamshire area, confessed to a series of 17 offences when he appeared at the judicial center on the end of the week.

However, he refused to admit one particular crime he was charged with, which was concerning a nine-year-old child.

Ruben was remanded in custody ahead of a additional proceeding on November 28th.

'Candy game'

Mary Prior KC, presenting evidence, described the criminal behavior to the legal proceedings.

She said his those affected were children from difficult backgrounds who were attending a youth camp which he managed.

The man played a "treat game" with the children, Mrs Prior explained, in which he would access the children's bedrooms when they were settling down and request they to eat sweets "as quickly as they can".

She informed the proceedings the man had engaged in this activity with the young males "over an extended period", and minors had earlier experienced illness the next day.

She stated Ruben had been able to explain this over a long period as the children being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepson had concerns in recently.

The prosecutor continued: "Recently" his stepchild had suspicions about the situation, justifiably.

"They resolved" to have a look in the individual's items."

The prosecutor stated items including baby oil, Vaseline and syringes were located, and his family member contacted the law enforcement about his concerns.

She stated the man proceeded to engage in the "sweet game" with six boys that time - July 26th - and they were all sick the following morning.

"The police had not responded by that point," she stated further.

The police watchdog, the police conduct office, earlier informed that it was examining law enforcement's management of the situation.

The prosecutor explained the minors were having difficulty walking due to their condition, so the stepson contacted the authorities once more.

She stated Ruben then engaged in the "candy game" in a area of five children.
