Micky van de Ven scored on two occasions as Tottenham prolonged their unbeaten run on the road in the Premier League and handed Everton their initial loss at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Everton were unbeaten in their five previous fixtures at their new ground at the dockside location, having left their historic home behind after more than a century at the end of the previous campaign.

But Tottenham's leader Van de Ven struck twice from set-pieces in the opening 45 minutes to put their impressive record at risk, and they were failed to mount a comeback before the midfielder - assisted by ex-Everton forward the Brazilian - headed home a third to seal the victory.

Jake O'Brien thought he had levelled the scores five minutes after Van de Ven's first goal, glancing a powerful header past Guglielmo Vicario from an Everton corner.

The Portuguese striker, meanwhile, missed a number of chances, while Vicario made a series of fine saves to guarantee the London club went five away games unbeaten in the Premier League.

But the video assistant referee stepped in, advising the match official to check the score on the pitchside monitor and the referee decided that the winger and the attacker were in an illegal position and had impeded with the Tottenham goalkeeper.

The win moves Thomas Frank's team into third place in the division, five points off north London rivals and table-toppers Arsenal.

The Merseyside club stay in 14th position and are six points clear of the relegation zone.

Spurs breakdown: Van de Ven excels in role at each end of pitch

Following a uninspiring midweek performance in the Champions League against Monaco, where they managed a only attempts on goal, Frank opted for Randal Kolo Muani in attack instead of former Toffees player Richarlison.

The summer signing was failed to influence the game before being replaced for the substitute after 60 minutes on the pitch, but it emerged he proved unnecessary in the end.

Everton analysis: Everton lacking finishing touch

The club's new home had been a happy hunting ground, but it seems the freshness may have faded slightly and fans headed to the gates after the midfielder's final goal for Spurs.

The end in Everton's winning streak at home won't be a major worry for David Moyes, but their striker situation are.

Beto and the other striker - the Everton's pair of established centre-forwards - had netted only a single goal between them before Sunday's match.

And they were failed to contribute to that poor tally on a damp and dreary evening on in Liverpool.
